Synopsis

The collection covers a number of issues of the history of philosophical and sociological thought in Ukraine.

Tabachnykov's article shows the ideological struggle between Stefan Yavorsky, who defended pro-Catholic views, and Theophan Prokopovich, who stood for the antipapist position.

Koval in his article analysed the views of the Decembrists of the Society of United Slavs on the issue of freedom from a philosophical point of view and proved that the Decembrists of this Society were the founders of revolutionary ideology in Ukraine.

Denysenko in his article analyses the political objectives of the Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius and the role of the creation of Brotherhood for Ukraine.

Lukerenko's article shows that Drahomanov was a materialist and illustrates the role he played in the struggle against reaction in various spheres of cultural life in Ukraine.

In her article, Savelieva shows that idealistic philosophy in Ukraine in the last quarter of the nineteenth century was characterized by such trends as neo-Hegelianism, neo-Kantianism, positivism, and religious- mystical philosophical thought.

Oleksiuk critically examines the idealist movements in the 20s and 30s of the twentieth century in the Western Ukrainian lands and describes the Lwów–Warsaw school, the Polish Philosophical Society, and the views of individual idealist philosophers.

The collection is intended for scholars, university professors, postgraduate students, and students.
