Synopsis

The article is dedicated to highlighting the characteristic features of the Ukrainian nation (folk). This issue arose against the backdrop of Mirchuk's analysis of the philosophy of Slavic peoples and the discovery of its differences from the Western European tradition. He concludes that each nation must have its own "realm of spiritual creativity" that corresponds to the "elements of the nation's psychological structure."

According to Mirchuk, the worldview of the Ukrainian people is determined by the following characteristic features: 1) the Ukrainian people are peasants; 2) idealistic orientation; 3) individualistic orientation; 4) prevalence of emotion over reason; 5) the leading role of love in all spheres of Ukrainian life: family relationships, creativity, intellectual activity. Synthesizing some of these traits, the philosopher derives two additional characteristics: a) superficiality and b) deep religiosity. Ivan Mirchuk supports his arguments with historical examples and references to the works of Ukrainian intellectuals of different periods.

After listing the main characteristics of the Ukrainian worldview, Mirchuk highlights their negative impacts, which could lead to catastrophic consequences for the nation.
