Synopsis

The article examines two political positions - socialist and anti-socialist. By comparing them and outlining the principles of each, the author tries to determine which of them is the best for Ukraine. The article consists of two parts: the first was published in September 1948, and the second in October-December of the same year. In the first part, the author points out that there are no significant practical differences between the two positions; it is only necessary to determine the extent to which capitalism and socialism will be integrated. Lysiak-Rudnytskyi also 1) argues that there is no geographical division between the opposing concepts; 2) analyses intellectuals' reflections on this debate in Soviet Ukraine; 3) explains the problem of the difference between socialists and non-socialists by the different “historiosophical” perspectives of each group. In the second part of the article, the author analyzes the dividing lines in the Ukrainian political tradition.

Ivan Lysiak-Rudnytskyi signs the article under one of his pseudonyms "Ivan Brusnyi".
