Synopsis

In his essay, Alain Badiou proposes to understand Plato's political heritage through the prism of modernity. The author notes that Platonism has lost its popularity today, but urges us not to abandon this tradition. According to Badiou, Platonic philosophy eliminates the authoritarianism of the speaker, giving preference to the intrinsic value of what is said, in contrast to poetry, which is a powerful and declarative form of expression. Badiou concludes that in modern times one should remain a Platonist. The essay is also included in the collection In Praise of Politics («Pokhvala Politytsi»), published in 2019 by «Anetta Antonenko Publishing House». Translated from French by Andrii Riepa.
