In the article, Oleksandr Hrytsenko analyzes the types of political figures in Ukraine. Since Ukraine inherited the experience of the political culture of the USSR, the author also analyzes the images of Soviet leaders, who set the directions for the formation of political character types after gaining independence. Besides, Hrytsenko examines another variant of typology which is based on the previous positions and professions of political figures. But as this typology is not always effective, the author offers his own classification of contemporary Ukrainian politicians, which is based on the specific features that shape their public images. The typology identifies the main groups of political character types: 1) «hosts», «pragmatists», «centrists», 2) «fighters», 3) various «professionals» and people of the «real deeds». The article is also based on sociological research data aimed at identifying public perceptions of the ideal type of politician in the Ukrainian context.
