The article is dedicated to Serhii Yefremov’s diary. Eleonora Solovei provides commentary on the document of the prominent scientist and intellectual — his protest against the spirit of the time. It describes what was happening amid public and cultural life in Ukraine during the 1920s. The author analyzes the difficult conditions faced by literature and science under the pressure of the Bolshevik regime. The diary became a kind of literary self-portrait of S. Yefremov.
