The material is a review of István Erőssi’s book Days with Gombrowicz. The book itself appears as a record of the intimate experience of Ershi reading the three-volume Diary of the Polish writer Witold Gombrowicz. The reviewer analyzes Ershi’s key positions — his polemic with Gombrowicz, philosophical reflections on death, the “Self,” self-knowledge, as well as the connection between the process of reading and the search for life’s meanings. Special attention is given to the historical context in which the worldview foundations of both authors were formed, emphasizing the influence of authoritarian regimes.
