The article contains Yevhen Golovakha’s considerations of phenomenon of international terrorism. The author examines the spread of fundamentalist movements and their fight against development of civilization by the means of terror, through the prism of people’s psychological need for the unchanging of the social order. The article highlights three types of fundamentalism—religious, communist, and ethnic—which share a common belief in the injustice of the existing social order.
The author remarks that the victory of fundamentalism over contemporary civilization would be the transformation of democratic societies into military camps in the face of the horror of a constant threat. In conclusion, the author emphasizes the importance of creating psychological mechanisms to overcome mass fear and consolidate democratically oriented states in the fight against fundamentalism.
