The article contains Oleksandr Hrytsenko's view on the realities of Ukraine's cultural space at the beginning of the 21st century. The author notes the decline of the book market and Ukrainian media at that time. The article includes a debate with Ukrainian intellectuals: Oksana Zabuzhko, Mykola Knyazhytskyi, and others. According to Hrytsenko, the economic crisis, the development of information technology, and significant competition have profoundly affected the situation of publishing houses and other cultural institutions. The text clearly outlines the obstacles that hindered the development of Ukrainian book publishing. According to the author, the solution to the problem lies in the reception of the experience of other countries that is relevant to the Ukrainian context. The article contains reflections on the limits and needs of contemporary national culture and politics.
