The material is a review of Andrzej . The review presents the author's main arguments on the problem of totalitarianism and the specifics of Marxist philosophy, and analyzes his polemic with American researchers of the Soviet totalitarian regime. Particular attention is paid to the contextual features of the publication and its content. The review consists of four thematic parts. The first is devoted to a general overview of Walicki’s work. The second examines his interpretation of key concepts, in particular totalitarianism, Stalinism, and Marxism. In the third part, the author analyzes how Walicki draws on Ivan Franko's ideas from his work What is Progress? in his own reflections, as well as how this interpretation fits in with the overall logic of the reviewed work. One of the subtopics of the material is the problem of national identity and the influence of ideological pressure from the Soviet regime on the formation of the author's worldview.
