Synopsis

In his article «The dead ends of Leninism», Pavlo Kutuiev offers a theoretical and analytical interpretation of Leninism as a specific project of social transformation that laid the foundation for political and institutional practices in the post-Soviet space. Kutuiev focuses on the internal contradictions within the Leninist model of modernization, particularly the unresolved antagonism between the rational and charismatic dimensions of political time. Central attention is given to the concept of «charismatic impersonality» as an attempt to overcome this antagonism through the party’s organizational structures. The analysis centers on the processes of institutionalizing the revolutionary subject and their impact on the nature of Soviet politics and culture. The article also presents a comparative overview of alternative Marxist interpretations of time, represented by the ideas of Trotsky, Bukharin, and Stalin. It is argued that Leninism’s inability to establish an effective mechanism for the cultural internalization of the new order became a key factor in its historical limitations.
