Hennadii Aliaiev's article consists of six parts: 1) The way to the reader; 2) The liberal-conservative paradigm; 3) Tradition and law; 4) Separation of the authority: legislation and government; 5) Partisan elections and the brutality of politics; 6) Liberal or conservative?
The first part contains the author's remarks on two editions of Ukrainian translations of Friedrich von Haiek's Law, Legislation and Liberty, dedicated to the centenary of the Austro-British economist.
In the second part, the author defines von Haiek's political views as «liberal conservatism». The argument is that Haiek believes that preserving traditions is necessary to ensure human rights and freedoms.
The third part describes such features of Haiek's political conception as the distinction between right and law and the rejection of political constructivism with its positive definitions of freedom and justice.
The fourth part focuses on the relevance for Ukrainian politics of Haiek's idea of dividing the legislature into a government, a governmental assembly formed on the basis of party principle, and a legislative assembly elected on the basis of meritocracy
The fifth part of the article examines the danger of the rule of law over right as one of the drawbacks of democracy.
The sixth part discusses Haiek's libertarian views on the role of the state. The purpose of the article is to demonstrate the falsity of the dichotomy of liberalism and conservatism and to propose liberal conservatism as a unifying political paradigm for Ukrainian society.
