Synopsis

The article is devoted to the issue of visual design in works of Ukrainian fiction. The author draws critical attention to the «form» of Ukrainian publications, since, just like the «content», it plays an important role in the reader’s perception of the book and in satisfying their aesthetic needs. The article states that the main problem with poor-quality book production and unaesthetic design is the prohibition of creative self-expression, which stems from the totalitarian culture of the Soviet Union.

Ultimately, Taran emphasizes that the culture of the book is an indicator of the culture of society, therefore, qualitative changes in visual design are essential for the formation of a cultural Ukrainian nation.
