Synopsis

The main goal of this work is to examine the concept of «politics» and grasp its essence. The author begins his research with the etymology of the word and establishes two understandings of politics: 1) as a science, theory, and 2) as practice and creative action. The work distinguishes between the two concepts of «politics as a science» and «the science of the state». Politics as a science oriented toward what ought to be — toward shaping the future, while the science of the state studies existing state phenomena.

Furthermore, the author distinguishes between the concepts of «state» and «society» and traces their historical development and their influence on the understanding of the concept of «politics».

Ultimately, Levynskyi defines politics as a social struggle for the existence and preservation of national culture and emphasizes that the establishment of a nation‑state is a critically important goal of politics for oppressed peoples.
