Synopsis

Ukrainian translations of a number of works by various philosophers on the idea of the university. 

The anthology includes the following translations: Henry Newman's «The Idea of a University» translated by Roman Dubasevych; «Misiôn de la Universidad» by José Ortega y Gasset, translated by Yevhen Hulevych under the guidance of Viktor Shovkun as part of the «Perekladatska maisternya 2000-2001» project; excerpts from Karl Jaspers' «Die Idee der Universität», translated by Halyna Petrosaniak, Khrystyna Chushak, and Volodymyr Kryvoruchko under the guidance of Anatolii Onyshko and Andrii Dakhnii as part of the Centre for Humanities Research's «Perekladatska maisternya 2000-2001» project; «Die Idee der Universität: gestern, heute, morgen» by Hans-Georg Gadamer, translated by Yurko Prokhasko; «Die Idee der Universität-Lernprozesse» by Jürgen Habermas, translated by Liudmyla Nor; «Die Idee der deutschen Univeersität-ein Blick von außen» by Wolf Lepenies, translated by Roman Dubasevych; «The Principle of Reason: The University in the Eyes of its Pupils» by Jacques Derrida, translated by Olena Fedorchuk; an adapted version of Marek Kwiek's introductory lecture, which he gave at the Central European University in Budapest in 2000, translated from English by Roman Dubasevych.

The publication is accompanied by an introductory article by Mariia Zubrytska, biographical information on each of the authors presented, footnotes and an index compiled by Nataliia Babalyk.
