Hennadii Aliaiev’s article examines the issue of the gradual decline in the academic quality of editions of philosophical classics in Ukraine. The main cause is identified as the widespread proliferation of commercial, low-quality publications lacking an adequate scholarly apparatus. The author investigates the shortcomings of contemporary translations and scholarly-critical editions, analyzing the negative impact of the absence of high-quality commentaries, indexes, and methodological materials on readers’ intellectual culture and the educational process. The article argues that only a comprehensive approach, adhering to academic standards in both translation and publishing practice, can ensure a deep and critical understanding of classical texts, thereby contributing to the preservation and development of the philosophical tradition in Ukraine. The importance of reviving the scholarly-critical edition as a fundamental tool for fostering a high level of philosophical education and the intellectual development of society is emphasized.
