The article is a reflection on Ukrainian literary criticism in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. The author focuses on the 1970s, stating that due to the pressure of Soviet censorship, political journalism was forced to exist in the form of literary criticism. The author examines the growing politicization of literary criticism in the late 1980s, which came to an abrupt end in the early 1990s due to the economic crisis. Time period from the second half of the 1990s to the first half of the 2000s is considered to be the heyday of literary criticism in Ukraine. Despite the fragmentary nature of such criticism and the dominance of political and philosophical topics in academic literary discourse, the author's overall forecast for the future of Ukrainian literary criticism is positive.
