The material is an accompanying article to the three-volume edition of V. Domontovych’s prose, compiled by Yurii Sheveliov. In the text, Sheveliov advances an unorthodox view of the history of the Kyiv Neoclassicists. In his opinion, V. Domontovych’s figure was unjustly pushed to the periphery of Ukraine’s interwar cultural process. The author argues that the writer’s prose should be regarded as part of the core legacy of the so-called «Grono». The essay provides a detailed account of the historical context of V. Domontovych’s literary activity and his relations with Mykola Zerov, Maksym Rylskyi, Pavlo Fylypovych, Mykhailo Drai-Khmara, and Oswald Burghardt. Sheveliov offers a deep analysis of the philosophical themes of love and irrationality, the political conjuncture, and the sources of V. Domontovych’s inspiration.
