The material is a review by Eleonora Solovey of Kostiantyn Moskalets' work “The Cell of the Tea Rose”.
The author offers a detailed analysis of both the strengths and weaknesses of the book. Moskalets' text, written in the form of a diary, covers a ten-year period in the life of the main character/narrator (1989–1999), which, according to Solovei, is difficult to reconstruct in such a personal format. The reviewer draws attention to the significant number of repetitions and thematic cycles, which, in her opinion, give the work a certain monotony and negatively affect its compositional dynamics.
At the same time, Solovey notes the author's courage and sincerity, which are combined with Moskalets' distinctly individualistic, sometimes reclusive worldview. Separately, she emphasizes the presence of elements of self-destructive behavior, which in places takes on a romanticized tone thanks to the high culture of writing and masterful command of language.
This issue of Krytyka also includes reviews and comments by Serhii Zhadan and Kostiantyn Moskalets himself, which broaden the context of the work's reception.
