In this article, the author argues with Hryhorii Hrabovych about the equivalence of the title of candidate of sciences to the Western PhD degree through the prism of the perception of these degrees in the natural and human sciences. The publication is a continuation of the discussion published in Krytyka No. 12 in 2007.

Unlike Hrabovych, Strikha believes that these degrees are comparable – in his opinion, the local title of candidate of sciences can be considered equivalent to the Western PhD. This conclusion is based on the author's comparison of the dissertation research of Ukrainian scientists and their Western colleagues.
