Synopsis

The article is a review by Volodymyr Verloka of Vitalii Tabachkovskyi's work, In Search of Unlost Time (Kyiv, 2002). The reviewed work is devoted to the analysis of the development of philosophical thought in Kyiv in the 1960s–1990s, associated with the intellectual activity of the staff of the Institute of Philosophy.

The author of the review emphasizes that Tabachkovsky's narrative is built around the opposition between humanistically oriented philosophers and the totalitarian system that defined the framework of intellectual life at the time. At the same time, the review emphasizes that the phenomenon of the Kyiv School required broader interaction with society in order to acquire the status of “knowledge-power” in the Bacon`s terms.
