The author relies on a deep historical and geographical context, emphasizing the key role of Vasyl Karazin as the initiator and organizer of this project. The importance of the university for the formation and development of the intellectual environment of Slobozhanshchyna is outlined, which turned Kharkiv into one of the leading educational and cultural centers of the early 19th century. Special attention is paid to the processes of the formation of the university, its functioning and interaction with the urban environment, which gradually built the image of Kharkiv as an intellectual center. At the same time, the historical regularity of the gradual transfer of this status to Kyiv, which later established itself as the main center of Ukrainian cultural and scientific life, is emphasized.
