Synopsis

The material is a critical review of two works dedicated to the figure of Viktor Petrov: «The Poetics of Paradox» by Vira Aheieva and «The Mystery of Devided Face» by Marana Hirniak. The author expresses methodological remarks regarding previous attempts to comprehend Petrov’s biography and work. The article emphasizes the importance of considering the figure in the context of Marxism and communism, which was neglected by the researchers. According to Kateryna Ruban, biographers groundlessly tend to"whiten" Petrov’s honor. Or they arbitrarily interpret his work, attributing inappropriate characteristics.
