The material is an article dedicated to comparing the philosophical views of Hryhorii Skovoroda and Socrates. Special attention is paid to the concept of self-knowledge . In addition to the comparative analysis itself, Ivan Fizer dispels false ideas and manipulations of some Russian and Ukrainian interpreters of Skovoroda's texts. The author studied the linguistic aspect of philosophical considerations in detail. The connection of gnoseological ideas with the metaphysics and ethics of both philosophers was also mentioned, where Fizer finds not only common ground but also differences. At the end of the text, the author proposed an alternative approach that involves a Neoplatonic interpretation of Skovoroda’s legacy.
