The article analyzes the phenomenon of the Ukrainian cultural renaissance of the 1920s–1930s, which ended with mass repressions by the Soviet regime. The author offers a critical review of the concept of “Executed Renaissance”, emphasizing its ambiguity: alongside the tragedy of the destruction of the intelligentsia, there were attempts at cultural resistance, adaptation, and survival under totalitarian conditions. Не examines various behavioral strategies of artists — from open resistance to forced conformity — and emphasizes that even in the harshest conditions there was inner freedom of creativity. The article combines historical analysis with reflections on the role of literature in preserving identity, revealing the complex dialectic between survival and dignity, compromise and spiritual resistance.
