Synopsis

The article is devoted to the book The Aesthetics of the Four Elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air (Estetyka czterech żywiołów. Ziemia, Woda, Ogień, Powietrze) and to the range of key problems addressed in it.

The author draws on a number of contextually related works, placing particular emphasis on reflections on the images of the elements, nature, and culture within contemporary ecological thought and aesthetics. A separate section offers an overview of the theoretical interpretations of these themes that the author considers most relevant, with a focus on the illusory nature of the boundary between culture and nature and on the role of spatial perception of the world in human experience.
