The article is a critical response to Andrii Portnov's proposals regarding the structural reform of historical science in Ukraine. The author questions the practical feasibility of the proposed changes, particularly the replacement of Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine (VAK) with professional commissions, emphasizing the need to discuss specific financial and organizational consequences for provincial researchers. Vyrskyi also skeptically assesses the possibility of implementing the new role of the historian as a public expert in Ukrainian realities.
