Synopsis

In this work, the author raises the question of the relevance of the “agrarian ideology” in post-war Europe, emphasizing that it has not only an internal national significance for individual countries but also a foreign-policy dimension, as it shapes the nature of relations between neighboring nations. For a clearer understanding of this phenomenon, the author draws a distinct distinction between it and other ideologies, relying on such characteristic features as irrationalism, sedentariness, and a moderate attitude toward political freedoms, among others. Particular attention is devoted to the problem of the political representation of the agrarian social stratum, which at that time constituted the majority of Europe’s population.
