A New Ethos for Europe? In Krytyka, No. 6 (92), 2005, pp. 2-4.
Keywords:
Concept of nation-state, concept of post-national state, collective identitySynopsis
The author raises the question of the prospects for the institutional reorganization of Europe in connection with the transition from the concept of nation-states to “post-national” states. The text emphasizes the need for a transformation of the ethos of individuals, social groups, and even entire peoples in light of these processes. In this context, a classification of models of integration, or mediation, related to the problematics of identity and difference is proposed. These models presuppose the principled possibility of mnemonic exchange between different subjects, which, according to the author’s assumption, may help address the problem of collective identities.
