The Peasant War in Germany (Trans. from Germ. by Volodymyr Levytskyi): Berlin-Kyiv, Publishing House “Knowledge is Power”, Foreign Bureau of the Ukrainian Social-Democratic Labour Party (USDLP), 1920, 126 p.
Synopsis
A historical essay written by Friedrich Engels in London in the summer of 1850, inspired by the revolutionary events of 1848–1849. The work is devoted to the uprisings of the early sixteenth century, known as the Peasant War of 1524–1525. Drawing on the principles of historical materialism, Engels rejects the traditional explanation of the war through political and religious causes, focusing instead on economic and class factors.
Translated from German by Volodymyr Levytskyi. Introduction by Franz Mehring.
