"The Development of Socialism from Utopia to Science" was first published in 1880 in French, and in 1883 in German. Primarily an extract from the polemical "Anti-Dühring" (1878), it rejects the utopian search for an ideal society in philosophy, instead arguing that the causes of social changes and political revolutions are to be sought in economics. The book became one of the key publications of the international socialist movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
