In his work, Bohdan Tsymbalisty explores the idea of statelessness as a deep historical and psychological factor that shapes the national consciousness of Ukrainians.
The author seeks to prove how prolonged political dependence leaves a "stigma" of inferiority, is reproduced in daily patterns of behavior, and contributes to internal conflicts. Special attention is paid to the responsibility of national elites for overcoming stateless thinking. Tsymbalisty sees the way out of the outlined stagnation in the formation of state discipline, political maturity, and national solidarity as prerequisites for full-fledged state-building.
The work focuses on the characteristic statelessness of the tendency to discord, which in turn manifests itself in distrust of one's own institutions. However, the author emphasizes that it is precisely such a situation that instills in the people a desire for a strong, responsible state.
