In the article, Yurii Prokhasko examines Lviv as a center of intellectual and cultural achievement during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The author analyzes the circumstances under which a generation of scientific and artistic geniuses emerged in Lviv. Prokhasko interprets the mythological character of Lviv as a Genius loci, emphasizing the importance of deconstructing this myth. Particular attention is paid to the multicultural nature and ambiguity of the intellectual environment of that period. At the end of the article, the author supplements his reflections with historical and institutional contexts. This publication constitutes the first part of the complete text.
