Viktor Platonovych Petrov, literary scholar, archaeologist, ethnographer and Soviet partisan scout, has died. In Svoboda, 1969, 12th November, p. 1.

In this post the author reports on the death of Viktor Petrov, drawing on an obituary published in the «Ukrainian Historical Journal» in September 1969. The author notes that between 1942 and 1949 Petrov was in emigration, and the circumstances of his disappearance gave rise to rumours. The Soviet obituary, by contrast, offers a different version: according to it, during the war Petrov served as a partisan scout behind enemy lines.
