Stepan Kozak reviews and comments on certain aspects of Dmytro Chyzhevskyi's Essays on the History of Philosophy in Ukraine. The author criticises Chyzhevskyi for having overlooked the Ukrainian epic while analysing the origins of Romantic thought in Ukraine. In this regard, Kozak disagrees with Chyzhevskyi's assertion that the ideas of the Slavic national revivalists are difficult to characterise. In Chyzhevskyi's view, they are merely an echo of Western thought or a distinctive Slavic interpretation. Separately, the author emphasises that the Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius were convinced of the need to introduce the principles of Christian morality into political and social life. In this they saw the only path to the Kingdom of God.
