Imagined Historiographies. In Krytyka, No. 4 (102), 2006, pp. 26-27.

The article examines the features of ethno-historiographical stereotypes in Ukrainian, Russian, and Polish historiography and their role in historical scholarship. Ethno-historiographical stereotypes are stable perceptions about a particular national historiography. Their emergence and spread are driven by ethnic stereotypes about other peoples in society. The author emphasizes that such stereotypes cause harm to scholarship, being a manifestation of the political bias. In the author's view, this gives rise to historiographical nihilism – the neglect of the historiographies of other nations in favor of non-scholarly interests. In conclusion, it is emphasized that national complexes manifested through ethnic stereotypes reinforce ethno-historiographical stereotypes, impoverishing historical scholarship.
