Synopsis

The textbook History of Philosophy of Ukraine is a thorough study of the formation and development of Ukrainian philosophical thought from the Old Rus' period to the philosophy of the twentieth century. The team of authors examines the main stages in the formation of the Ukrainian philosophical tradition, its leading ideas, worldview characteristics, and connection with social and cultural processes. Particular attention is paid to the philosophical heritage of Kyivan Rus', the era of the Ukrainian Baroque, the work of Hryhorii Skovoroda, the development of philosophical thought in the nineteenth century, and its subsequent transformations in the twentieth.

Philosophical concepts are considered in a broad historical and cultural context, which makes it possible to trace the interaction of the Ukrainian tradition with European philosophy. The volume reveals the distinctiveness of the Ukrainian philosophical worldview and its treatment of the problems of the human being, freedom, cognition, spirituality, and national culture.
