Vilen Horskyi: Touches, Meanings, Contemplation: Kyiv, National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, 2011, 385 p.
Keywords:
Ukrainian philosophy, methodology, History of Ukrainian philosophySynopsis
The collection is a comprehensive reflection on the life, philosophical legacy, and scholarly work of Vilen Serhiiovych Horskyi, one of the prominent Ukrainian historians of philosophy of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The authors present Horskyi not only as a researcher of the history of Ukrainian philosophy, but also as a thinker, teacher, and intellectual for whom philosophizing was a way of reflecting on culture, the human being, and his own spiritual experience.
Particular attention is paid to his historical-philosophical methodology, the problems of the national and cultural identity of Ukrainian philosophy, the interconnection between a thinker's biography and his work, and the specific features of studying philosophical traditions.
Memoirs, interviews, and Horskyi's own texts complement the academic studies with a vivid portrait of the scholar, who viewed the university and philosophical education as a space for the formation of the person and of the love of wisdom.
