Synopsis

The article analyzes the impact of the 2008 global economic crisis on the lives of Ukrainian citizens in economic, psychological, and social terms, based on the results of sociological surveys by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The author concludes that recovery from the crisis may be slow due to citizens’ political apathy and politicians’ uncertainty about the course of development. At the same time, the data show that Ukrainian society has sufficient social resources to overcome it. It is emphasized that the crisis phenomena are not fatal, and that public moods are changeable and do not fully correspond to reality in all respects.
