In the article, Andreas Umland, Associate Professor of Political Science at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, draws attention to the differences between the Eurasian visions of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the ideologist Alexander Dugin, despite the commonality of their intellectual origins and premises. The author argues that Dugin appears rather as a contrasting figure who highlights Putin’s idea of the “Eurasian Union,” a foreign policy initiative outlined by Putin on the eve of his return to the presidency in 2011.
