Museum in the context of radical democracy. In Politychna krytyka, 2016-04-14.

The article is a translation of a text by Chantal Mouffe. The author opposes intellectuals who reject a reformist approach to cultural institutions. It is emphasized that cultural institutions are not static and therefore have the potential to become an instrument of radical politics of resistance. The conditions of their existence in the post-Fordist era are examined: the blurring of the boundary between art and advertising, the rapid growth of the creative industries, and the transformation of museums into centers of entertainment. The author is convinced that neoliberal commercialization is not the only possible path for the museum’s evolution. She calls on the contemporary left, following the rehabilitation of the welfare state project, to rethink the role of the art institutions subordinate to it.
