About the Press

Archivum Sententiarum is an academic-archival center for the study of the history of philosophy, founded in March 2024 by the historical and philosophical journal Sententiae with the support of the Sententiae Journal Community, Vinnytsia National Technical University, and in cooperation with the H. S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy.

“Archivum Sententiarium” operates in four areas: archival; research; formative; communicative and educational.

The archival efforts of Archivum Sententiarum involve collecting, cataloguing, digitizing, and publicly presenting various types of sources from the history of Ukrainian philosophy. Part of the center's archival activities is ensuring the functioning and updating of the eponymous aggregator website as an element of open access infrastructure to assist anyone researching the history of Ukrainian philosophy in Ukraine or abroad.

Research activities consist of conducting independent research in accordance with the center's systematic research program, as well as widely presenting the results of that research. Currently, the center has two programs: “Ukrainian Philosophy of the 20th Century in Documents and Texts” and “Ukrainian Philosophy of the 19th Century in Documents and Texts.”

Formative activities consist of promoting the professional growth of employees through a gradual transition to increasingly complex types of work. In this sense, «Archivum Sententiarum» continues the logic of learning through research, which was originally laid down in the idea of the Student Society of Oral History of Philosophy, which a significant part of the center's employees participated in.

Communicative and educational activities consist of a) supporting academic communication on current research in the history of 20th-century Ukrainian philosophy; b) making the results of this research available to a wider Ukrainian audience through original educational and popular products.

The “Archivum Sententiarium” website is an aggregator of digital resources on the history of Ukrainian philosophy.

The aggregator website adheres to an open access policy. The website is intended to be a research tool for anyone studying the history of Ukrainian philosophy, both in Ukraine and abroad.

The website will publish electronic versions of publications:

(1) that have never been digitized before (we prepare digital versions of these publications ourselves);

(2) that are already online but scattered across various open access repositories that do not have a clear philosophical specialization (we aggregate such materials through links to open access sites where they are already posted).

The plan for developing the Archivum Sententiarum aggregator site is to keep adding new materials on the history of Ukrainian philosophy.

The materials will be classified by genre in chronological order, regardless of the philosophical positions of their authors. This will make it possible to recreate the palette of Ukrainian philosophical thought from different periods in all its diversity.

Most of the materials will eventually be supplemented with modern analytical tools, indexes, etc.

Currently, the website has seven thematic sections: Periodicals; Books; Papers; Translations; Archives; Personal Sections; Register of Published Ukrainian Translations of Philosophical Works.
