The article examines the phenomenon of translation within the context of contemporary challenges posed by the information age. Havryliv conceptualizes translation as a consequence of the Babylonian confusion of languages, which created conditions for intercultural communication while simultaneously constraining human possibilities. The study analyzes the role of the translator as a mediator between cultures, who must possess profound knowledge of their native language and comprehend the ethos and taboos of diverse cultural communities. The influence of social commissioning on the quality of Ukrainian translations is critically evaluated. The author concludes by advocating for the establishment of a conceptual history of Ukrainian translation studies and the understanding of translation as a scientific discipline of global significance.
