The material, dedicated to the problems of historical science and education, is an analysis of eleven textbooks on the history of Ukraine. Natalia Yakovenko defines the functions and characteristics of a textbook. The author draws attention to the problem of historical didactics, such as anachronisms in the interpretation of national history. The article stressed the lack of historical study of private space and the life of an ordinary person. In the text, there is a description of several methodological problems of modern Ukrainian history and its presentation in higher education – such as silences or distortions of historical events. The author provides examples of both negative and positive features of Ukrainian textbooks.
