Synopsis

The article examines the concept of love for one's neighbor as the foundation of happiness. The author notes that Christian ethics must be considered in its entirety in order to resolve complex problems of ethical life. Love for one's neighbor is grounded in love for God. However, in modern culture, this is displaced by atheism, which in ethical life is oriented toward humanism. The author emphasizes that the humanist is inherently unstable, through which he can easily turn from an altruist into an egoist. In conclusion, the author stresses the need to return to the Christian ethics of love for one's neighbor, which is capable of saving one from earthly suffering.
